I’m excited and a little bit nervous. Why? Because I’ve just launched my very first online course: Landing a Literary Agent: How to Find the Right Agent and Compose the Perfect Query.
I’ve taught this class several times in person at the Bethesda Writer’s Center, and because of its success there, some friends encouraged me to put all the info and advice I’ve gathered over the years into an online course.
I’m nervous because I’m not a salesperson by nature. I hate harping at people to “buy my stuff,” and yet I think this course I made is really good and it will give you the confidence to write a great query letter to the right agent, so… um, buy my stuff!
I’m also excited because this course has added resources my in-person class didn’t have — like a private facebook page, which means that even after you’ve finished the course, you can continue to get valuable advice and feedback from a community of other writers who are also in the process of agent-searching.
Why should you take Landing a Literary Agent?
I have done quite a bit of agent-searching in my life, and when I first started out, I made a LOT of mistakes. I want to save you from making the same mistakes I did!
After plenty of research, I learned how to do it right and finally landed two agents who wanted to represent me — one I found by query letter and the other through a Twitter pitch contest. I had the luxury (agony) of deciding between them! I want YOU to have that luxury (agony), too!
Not knowing where to start, fear of rejection, confusion about the process — there are lots of reasons writers feel intimidated about the querying process. This course addresses all of them.
It can be scary to send your work out into the world. Landing a Literary Agent will give you the confidence you need to send a great query to the right agents!
What will you learn in Landing a Literary Agent?
The self-paced course is a compilation of videos, text, and downloadable documents that you will have access to for as long as you like, across any and all devices you own. In Landing a Literary Agent you’ll learn:
- what an agent does (and the warning signs of a bad agent)
- where and how to find the right agent for you.
- the secrets to writing the perfect query letter.
- about Twitter pitches, agent contests, conference pitch sessions, and other ways to land a literary agent.
- about simultaneous submissions, exclusive reads, “nudging” agents, and other confusing aspects of the querying process.
Plus you’ll receive an in-depth critique of your query letter and access to a private facebook group of other writers preparing their query letters.
I’ll also have at least one live session in which we will discuss student queries and answer questions.
Enroll in Landing a Literary agent by Monday, September 24 to take advantage of the $30-OFF OPENING WEEKEND SALE. After that, the price will increase to $159. The cart will close on Wednesday, September 26 at midnight (EST), so be sure to enroll before then!
I’m really proud of this course. It’s full of online resources and practical advice that will get you ready to send a great query to the agents of your choice.
Let me know if you have any questions! And if you are coming across this post after September 26, join my mailing list so that you can be alerted if I decide to run this course again.
