Good Morning,
I hope this email finds you in good spirits. My name is Arlen Fuentes, I have been writing since I was right years old and yesterday, May 4th, I completed the manuscript for my first novel. I am overwhelmed with emotion at the moment and I don’t know what to do, in terms of the next step which is finding an editor and writing a query letter, as I would like to submit it an agent or an independent publisher. I have no clue as to where to begin, please help me. I need your expertise on what to do next. I would really appreciate all of the advice you can give me. This novel has been a long time coming, and I want to give myself the best shot on getting it published.
Hi Arlen! Congratulations on finishing your manuscript! That in itself is a huge accomplishment. I would definitely recommend giving it to some beta readers if you haven’t already. Shadows Fade, my first completed novel will be published soon through Dorrance which is a Self- Publishing company. I would love to tell you about it. I also put together a poetry book entitled Symphonic Ritual, which I am self publishing on my own for the New York City Poetry Festival. My writing group and I have secured a table for the event. I just listened to your interview on My Rejection Story. It’s very inspiring to hear your story, and I’m following your podcast now. It’s nice to see another high school classmate who has pursued an artist career. I see parallels to my own life, even though we’re in different fields. You posted something a while ago about “a writer…..writes”, and that really resonated with me. A true artist creates because they must, regardless of external validation. It’s helped me maintain a consistent creative output. Hopefully someday other people will hear it. Vivaldi was long dead before the public realized he was a genius. Keep writing!
